From Erbil’s Fertile Soil to Stunning Bouquets
14 fourteen different types and colors of roses, the result of the unique and first-of-its-kind experiment in Iraq to grow roses in greenhouses with modern and advanced technology in our large project (Al-Alwa Al-Asriyya), which is only 9 kilometers from the center of Erbil. The year 2023 presented a unique challenge for us. This type of cultivation has the potential to make this type of agriculture a success.
The area of 8,000 square meters was divided into two sections for planting roses with two different types of seedlings. By February of this year 2024, the first picking of roses of various colors and types was completed. We hope that by February of next year the result will be the same. 250-300 roses per square meter, according to the engineering plan and feasibility study prepared by the Dutch company (Hortex), our partner in implementing this project.
At the beginning of April of this year, our engineering staff began implementing and building a new plastic house dedicated to growing roses, with an area exceeding 11,000 square meters.
We headed towards this unique experience, due to its importance and the multi-faceted project it represents in terms of economic feasibility. Instead of importing roses from multiple countries, Erbil’s land was fertile for growing roses and attracting many workers, in addition to its commercial feasibility in terms of profits. There is an industrial feasibility represented by the entry of roses into the country. Various industries, such as perfumes, for example. As for the aesthetic and cultural characteristics that roses carry, it is the bright cultural aspect of it.
